Multi-Media Sand Filter

Multi-media sand filter is an indispensable piece of equipment in the water treatment industry. It utilizes multiple layers of filter media to remove suspended solids, organic compounds, and unwanted particles from the water. Multi-media sand filters can treat water from a variety of sources, including wastewater, process water, cooling water, swimming pool water, groundwater, and municipal water supplies, etc.

Multi-media sand filters typically have multiple layers of filter media to collect the finer particles and solids loads removed. A typical multi-media sand filter has three layers of filler, such as anthracite, gravel, and sand.

When water enters the filter from the top, it first passes through the filter media with a smaller pore size. The top layer consists of a coarse material that is used to capture larger particles. Whereas, the bottom layer is made up of fine sand that is used to trap smaller particles. Other filter media, located between these two layers, acts as a barrier to other impurities.

In addition to achieving a high level of filtration, the media bed can be regenerated by regular backwashing, extending the life of the filter. The backwashing process reverses the flow of water, removes accumulated contaminant particles, and expells them.
